‘Arafah refers to a large open plain covering 104km , which lies 22km south-east of Al-Masjid Al-Haraam. It is here pilgrims spend the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah. The Prophet s said, “The Hajj is ‘Arafah.” [At-Tirmithi & Abu Dawood]
For pilgrims, the climax of their momentous journey is their stationing in ‘Arafah. It is here after the time of Salat adh-Dhuhr until sunset pilgrims supplicate to their Lord. These blessed hours are the pinnacle of Hajj, pilgrims utilise this time by drawing themselves closer to Allaah, beseeching their Lord and making constant and sincere du‘aa’ to Allaah for hours on end, asking Him for His forgiveness, mercy and anything and everything else they want in this world and the next!
The Prophet (PBUH) said, “There is no day on which Allaah frees more slaves from the Fire than the day of ‘Arafah. He comes close, and then praises them to the angels saying “What do these (people) want?” [Muslim]
